Attendance & Discipline:
Much of our learning in first grade is hands-on. In order for this year to be a successful learning experience, it is extremely important that your son/daughter arrives to school by 9:00am and attends EVERY day. Most children are not tardy or absent more than 5 times during any given school year. If an absence is unavoidable, any missed work will be saved in a folder. The folder will go home on the first day your child is back to school, and the student should complete missed work at home.
I will be using the school-wide behavior management strategy of Positive Reinforcement. Students will earn tickets for examples of good behavior and by following the 7 habits. They may spend their tickets on items from the class treasure box every two weeks.
Supplies:
Silver Crest Elementary will supply school supplies such as crayons, pencils, scissors, Elmer’s school glue, and a homework folder. Here is a list of individual supplies that your students will need to have on the first day of school: a plastic pencil box (that usually stays at school), 5 glue sticks, and two one-subject spiral bound notebooks. *These supplies will be provided if your student cannot bring them.* We are also asking for donations (for classroom—not individual use) of dry erase markers and tissues. Please do not send regular markers to school; keep these for use at home.
Snack, Calendar
& Newsletter:
Our lunchtime is 12:40. We will be having a time for snack at 11:20 Monday-Friday. Please send your child with a healthy snack each day. Some healthy snack suggestions are: string cheese, fruit, crackers, raisins, apple sauce, dry cereal, granola bars, etc. All snacks must be peanut, peanut butter and tree nut free. Also, because we have a water fountain within the classroom, please do not send drinks to school (except water bottles, if desired).
Book Orders:
I participate in Scholastic Book Club ordering. This is a wonderful and inexpensive way to build home libraries. Book orders will come home about every 3-4 weeks. I encourage everyone to order. Now it’s easier than ever to find the right books for your child. Best of all, our class earns a FREE book every time a parent places an order online! The website is: scholastic.com/bookclubs
My teacher code for online orders is: PV3ZZ
